Question by confusedwifey: What is a desk appraisal from the bank?
I am trying to obtain a loan from the bank. They are doing a personal loan. The way the banker explained it to me, they will contact the tax office and obtain the assessors report and then do a “desk appraisal” by calling me and asking questions about improvements done to my home. I know the house was appraised at $ 35,500.00 in 1995 but major improvements have been made including additions.

The bank will not send out an appraiser, but instead look at the “comps” in the area and get a good idea of what the property is worth today.
They will look at the improvements that you have made to your property then compare your property to the other like properties that have sold in the area within the last six months. They will adjust what they think the value is up or down compared to those properties.
That is what Realtor’s do when they give a Comparative Price/Market Analysis to determine the price of what a property should be listed for.

Question by gotmini02: My ? about “Project Payday” got flagged yday. (Probably by someone who is profiting from this it). Who r they?
Have they answered any questions you have posted on “Yahoo Answers”? Here is how the operate: you ask a question on “Yahoo Answers” related to financial hardship, budgeting, or in my case, about filing for bankruptcy. “They”(the people working for Project Payday) respond to your question posing as happy users of Project Payday when in fact they are soliciting us! “They” tell us to follow a link to visit their website(Project Payday) while promising it will make us easy money. “They” use fake yahoo profiles and even tell us if we have any questions to just email them. Ha! Problem is, you can’t email them. Why? Because the profile “they” set up does not allow them to receive emails. Are you all getting the picture? “They” make their money based on how many of us “they” can lure to the “Project Payday” website using their own link. That link is very specific so “they” make a percentage of money when we sign up. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE “THEY” CONTACTED YOU? I have been solicited by “them” 3 times already. BEWARE!!!

Technically it isn’t solicitation since the people you are referring to are just answering a question that you decided to place onto Yahoo! Answers.
That’s the whole point of a website like this. You ask something because you need information and the vast amount of members out there answer. In most cases, due to the large pool of knowledge, there is usually someone who can actually answer you or give some good advice. That’s they the whole best answer option exists. If you find that some particular advice was good then make it the best answer on your question and leave a comment as to why.
The question and answers provided in turn help many others who search the database when they have issues. But if there is an answer that you consider to be “solicitation” or not helpful then there is still no need to get worked up about it. Someone else might find it helpful or if it is truly solicitation then it should be removed by the Yahoo! Answers community or ignored.
In regards to Project Payday, I have answered questions about if it actually makes money. I have also left a link to the site for others to look at. It isn’t solicitation if it in response to legitimate questions having to do with the service.
By the way, it does work. I have made money with it myself. Here’s a link if you would like further information as to how it works:

Hi everyone! I hit a hard time in my life and I’m looking for some advice with it. If u could help in any way, I would be extremely grateful!
I’m 17 (18 in oct.), m, and gay. I came out to my mom when I was 15 and since then she has been very worried and concerned. Also, my dad lives out of state so I rarely talk to him.
So recently I thought it would be nice to meet another gay members of the community just to talk to: nothing sexual. I found a nice 20 yo guy who lives a little ways away but was interested in lunch as well. He is a parapalegic bc he has cerebal palsy. I texted him and asked if he would enjoy having lunch with me. He agreed. So at the same time I don’t want my mom to know, because it is my business and I am kinda ashamed bc I am gay. So I told him let’s have lunch here in town and I won’t tell her I’m going out; he sent a text later on saying “will she buy it?” he was being in a joking mood at the time.
I didn’t delete them bc I forgot to, and my mom went through my phone and saw them. Ever since then I have lost her trust she says. And I know I have! I wake up and regret the decision of even thinking about this guy!
So since then my best friend and I have been planning a little vacation (like 5 days) to SD Mt Rushmore area. My mom was still worried about the trust factor and then about sturgis going on a week after we plan on being back home. So we said we wouldn’t go there, even though we are seriously bummed. He invited me over today so we can plan things and figure out what else we want to do. But at the same time, I had to watch my sister. I asked her if she would like to go to her friends house for the day and I would go to my friends and plan. I told my mom her friend called and asked if she could come over, even though we made the plans. Well my mom figured that out too and we both are in a serious heap of trouble bc we both made a white lie.
I once again regret trying to get my sister to go along with this. Basically the night before we were asked to stay home and get the house ready for an appraisal bc we are going to buy it- it’s on a contract for deed right now. But I though lt if we planned my trip then I wouldn’t have to worry about it bc today was the only day we could do so.
Anyways my mom has stated to me clearly that she has lost all trust to me. And I regret all the things that lead up to it, but at the same time I was doing what I thought I would want.
I clearly know there isn’t a solid solution to this, but I would love to hear of ways to make it better (or at least try to)
once again I would love any positive feedback or advice. Please don’t be derogatory. I don’t mind negative feedback at all providing it’s not demeaning to me.
Thank you all, I’m having a very stressful time with all this!
